Doors Open Markham is back Saturday, September 26, 2026, from 10 AM to 4 PM!
Beginning in 2003, Doors Open Markham has brought together thousands of visitors from near and far to celebrate and experience Markham’s rich history and unique sites. Join us to explore an exciting mix of heritage buildings, cultural facilities, and community spaces across the city.
For one day only, a wide variety of buildings open their doors to the public. Doors Open Markham offers a rare, behind-the-scenes look at select sites throughout the city, including free access to buildings that typically charge admission. From cultural and heritage landmarks to innovative and modern spaces, this event provides a unique opportunity to discover the stories and inspirations that have shaped Markham.
Doors Open Ontario is a province-wide heritage tourism program that offers free public access to unique and historically significant places across Ontario. Working with communities throughout the province, the Ontario Heritage Trust opens the doors, gates, and courtyards of some of Ontario’s most fascinating cultural sites and invites the public to explore the stories within. The City of Markham is proud to once again participate in this exciting and enriching event.
Volunteer with Doors Open Markham
Volunteer applications opening soon!
We’re looking for enthusiastic and reliable volunteers aged 14 and older to help make Doors Open Markham a success. Volunteers will be stationed at participating locations throughout Markham, where they will welcome visitors and provide basic information about each site.
How to Become a Volunteer:
- Create a volunteer account online and add departments to your profile
- Attend a volunteer interview
- Provide a Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC)
- Complete the General Orientation Workshop and AODA training online
