Curbside Giveaway Day
Saturday, October 5 (rain or shine)
Markham residents are invited to place their unwanted items, clearly marked “FREE”, at the curb for others to browse and take for their own use, free of charge.
It’s like a garage sale without the money or hassle.
Guidelines:
- Ensure all items are clean and in good working condition.
- Clearly mark all the items as “free” and secure the labels with tape.
- Obey all traffic laws and watch for children.
- Do not block traffic, sidewalks, or place items on the road.
- Respect private property and do not walk on people's lawns or gardens.
What can be placed at the curb?
- Books, CDs, and DVDs
- Furniture and small appliances
- Sports equipment and toys
- Garden tools, equipment
- Kitchen gadgets, dishes, cutlery, pots and pans
- Electronics
- Holiday decorations
What shouldn’t be placed at the curb?
- Items that are not re-usable
- Items that could be infested with bed bugs (e.g., mattresses, furniture, bedding)
- Baby gates, cribs, car/booster seats
Unclaimed items:
- Remove all remaining items from the curb by 7PM.
- Material left at the curb will be subject to By-law enforcement.
- Donate items to local charitable, non-profit organizations or community groups.
- Drop off clothing, textiles and small household items to any Markham Textile Recycling bin
- Post items online on various selling sites or groups.
