Get An Emergency Kit
Emergencies happen. Be prepared for anything.
You should be prepared to take care of yourself and your family for 72-hours (3 days). A basic home emergency preparedness kit will help you do that.
Set yourself up for safety
Important documents (passport, birth certificate, etc.)
Radio (tune in to 105.9 FM (CFMS) – the City of Markham’s official emergency and information radio station)
Phone charger and battery bank
First aid kit
Utility knife and manual can opener
Prescription medication and infant formula
Change of clothes
Toiletries
Extra keys (home and car)
Blankets and sleeping bags
Money (small bills and change)
Non-perishable food (canned/dried food, energy bars, etc.) and water (4 litres per person per day)
Flashlight (wind-up or battery operated)
Specialty items specific to your family needs (walking cane, reading glasses etc.)
Keep an Emergency Car Kit in every vehicle you own. Have a “Grab and Go” emergency kit for each member of your household. Keep these near your exit doors. This helps if you must evacuate your home quickly.
