City of Markham amongst Canada’s Best Employers for third consecutive year
MARKHAM, ON – January 25, 2023 – Earlier today, for the third consecutive year, the City of Markham was recognized as one of Canada’s Best Employers for 2023. The City of Markham is ranked in the top three for Government Services.
“We are honoured to be named as one of Canada’s Best Employers for the third consecutive year,” said Markham Mayor Frank Scarpitti. “This recognition is a testament to the welcoming, diverse and inclusive work environment that has been created at the City of Markham. I want to thank CAO Andy Taylor and our Senior Management team for their continued leadership and creating a positive culture. And of course, our many passionate staff who continue to display ingenuity, hard work and dedication every single day.”
The City of Markham was named one of Canada’s Best Employers for 2023 by Forbes and Statista Inc., the world-leading statistics portal and industry ranking provider, through an independent survey of more than 12,000 Canadian employees working for companies employing at least 500 people in Canada. The evaluation was based on direct and indirect recommendations from employees that were asked to rate their willingness to recommend their own employers to friends and family. Employee evaluations also included other employers in their respective industries that stood out either positively or negatively.
“Markham is committed to excellence and we are honoured to continually be ranked one of the best workplaces in Canada and among the top in our sector,” said CAO Andy Taylor. “This recognition is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our staff, as well as the success of our recruitment and retention programs.”
Markham’s strength as an employer continues to lie in its commitment to its comprehensive People Plan which supports the City’s strategic goal of delivering exceptional services by exceptional people and focuses on onboarding, providing continuous opportunities for development and learning, numerous wellness initiatives, open communications, and a commitment to diversity and inclusion – as outlined in the updated Diversity Action Plan, which was released in July 2022.
We congratulate the Region of York for also being recognized as one of Forbes’ Canada’s Best Employers for 2023.
We are pleased and proud to be recognized along with a number of global companies with a large presence in Markham including AMD, Aviva Insurance, GE, General Motors, Honda, IBM, Johnson & Johnson, TD Bank, Tesla and many others.
