Markham returns to Collision with exciting new investment announcements
MARKHAM, ON – June 21, 2022 – The City of Markham proudly partnered with York Region, businesses and accelerator partners to return to showcase Markham’s innovation ecosystem to the world at North America’s fastest-growing high-tech conference, Collision.
Speaking from the stage at York Region’s Pavilion, Markham Mayor Frank Scarpitti delivered a series of announcements highlighting recent tech company investments in Markham. These investments will add a significant number of jobs to Markham and the Region.
“The City of Markham welcomes Syntronic and Astera Labs into our thriving innovation and tech ecosystem,” says Markham Mayor Frank Scarpitti. “These companies chose Markham because of our established network of thriving technology companies, our strong business reputation, deep pool of skilled and diverse talent that they can draw on to innovate and scale. These are just some examples of the latest successful collaborations between the City and our strategic partners Toronto Global and York Region to attract and support new global corporate investments and office expansions into Markham, York Region and the Toronto Region.”

Markham, the Centre of Canada’s second largest ICT cluster, is powered by more than 1,500 tech businesses that generate 37,000 jobs to make up a fifth of the City’s total employment. Markham is home to global tech giants and emerging innovators that invest in developing cutting edge innovations including IBM, AMD, GM Canada, GE, Fluidigm, CGI, Iristel, Bluewrist, TROES Technologies, Pond Technologies and many others. The City’s robust innovation ecosystem is supported by a rich network of accelerators including ventureLAB, YSpace and Seneca-HELIX to assist Markham’s thriving tech companies.
