Markham's Innovation Month celebrates 50 years of excellence
MARKHAM, ON – June 1, 2021 – The City of Markham will mark a special Innovation Month this year during the 50th anniversary of the City of Markham’s incorporation. Join Markham’s tech industry leaders, start-up entrepreneurs, homegrown businesses and academic institutions as we celebrate 50 years of excellence through a month-long social media campaign highlighting the talent, vision and key moments that were instrumental in transforming our community into one of Canada’s leading tech and innovation hubs. Follow us on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube using #WeAreMarkham and #MarkhamInnovates for videos throughout the month of June.
“This year marks an important milestone for the City of Markham. To celebrate 50 years since our incorporation and to recognize June as Innovation Month, we are paying tribute to the many companies and academic institutions that have contributed to Markham’s ascent as a leading tech and innovation hub in Canada,” said Markham Mayor Frank Scarpitti. “For 50 years, Markham has been on the forefront of innovation and we look forward to sharing stories throughout the month of June from our business and academic communities that celebrate key achievements and collaborations. Markham is proud to be home to skilled talent and a robust and diverse ecosystem of companies that makes it an ideal place to invest and grow a business.”
The City of Markham celebrates “50 years of excellence” this year. The roots of The Corporation of the City of Markham date back to the creation of the Regional Municipality of York on January 1, 1971 when Unionville, Milliken, Thornhill and Markham Village were consolidated to form the Town of Markham.
