MFES awarded Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation of Canada grant

“Markham Fire and Emergency Services is a leader in fire prevention education and this grant will further assist them in sharing important life-saving information using effective communications tools,” said Markham Mayor Frank Scarpitti. “I would like to thank Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation of Canada for recognizing the need to use enhanced forms of communication and appreciate their funding to Markham Fire and Emergency Services to produce content that will enhance our public safety education efforts.”

These new videos, which will be made possible with funding from the grant, will be shared with Markham’s youth in primary school grades one through four, and they will also be made available for public viewing online on Markham Fire and Emergency’s YouTube channel.

This is the second year that MFES has received a grant from Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation of Canada. The 2019 grant of close to $5,000 was used to help fund firetruck safety messaging for MFES’ fleet of trucks on the topic of fire escape planning.

“Throughout this year, we have worked hard to reach residents who are spending a lot more time at home due to COVID-19 public health measures,” said Markham Fire and Emergency Services Chief Adam Grant. “This year’s $19,210 grant will help us educate youth about public safety by creating and sharing high-quality videos - a format that is visually appealing and accessible. It will also help us reach people in Markham’s diverse communities who may find video more accessible than text. As firefighters, we are very proud that a business started by former firefighters is giving back to the community.”
