MFES Receives Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation of Canada Grant
MARKHAM, ON – October 31, 2022 – Markham Fire and Emergency Services (MFES) is thrilled to receive a grant from Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation of Canada totaling $19,546. The grant will be used to wrap six Markham Fire station bay doors with fire safety messaging.
“Markham Fire and Emergency Services is a leader in fire safety and fire prevention efforts,” said Markham Mayor Frank Scarpitti. “This grant enables them to amplify their fire safety messaging by providing highly visible safety graphics on six of their station doors. Thank you to the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation of Canada and our local Firehouse Subs on Markham Road for providing us with this invaluable funding.”
A student from Unionville High School was commissioned to design the artwork that will appear on the station bay doors, which focuses on extinguishing bad habits and cooking safely in the kitchen.
“Markham Fire and Emergency Services has three lines of defense: education, prevention and suppression,” said Markham Fire and Emergency Services Chief Adam Grant. “One of the leading causes of fires in Markham is caused by human behaviour and error. It is our goal to raise awareness and educate the community on fire safety tips and best practices that can help individuals do their part when it comes to being fire-safe, which ultimately helps better protect our neighbourhoods.”
A cheque presentation took place at Station 98 (650 Bur Oak Avenue) earlier today.
This is the third year that MFES has received a grant from Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation of Canada.
The Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation of Canada has awarded 306 grants to public safety organizations since 2015. This grant is one of 22 Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation of Canada awarded to public safety organizations during the most recent grant cycle.
