Passing of His Royal Highness The Prince Philip
Extending condolences to Her Majesty The Queen and the Royal Family on the passing of His Royal Highness The Prince Philip
Statement from Markham Mayor Frank Scarpitti
On behalf of the Members of Council and the City of Markham, I offer condolences to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on the passing of His Royal Highness The Prince Philip and Duke of Edinburgh. Our sympathies are with the Royal Family during this difficult time. As the longest serving Royal Consort, Prince Philip was a devoted husband and partner to Her Majesty and he was a model of dignity and honour.
Prince Philip led a life of duty and service and also served The Royal Navy prior to joining the Royal Family. Prince Philip also dedicated his life to volunteerism and offering support to countless charitable organizations. His service to Canada, the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth will never be forgotten and his legacy will live on for generations to come. A member of the highest honour of the Order of Canada, honorary general of the Canadian Army and the Royal Canadian Air Force, as well as honorary admiral of the Royal Canadian Navy, Prince Philip visited Canada more than 20 times throughout his life to participate in official royal visits and to lend his name to various causes and dedications.
Official Flags at all Markham facilities, including Markham Civic Centre and Markham Fire & Emergency Services Stations will be lowered in his honour. Members of the public are invited to write a message of sympathy in our virtual condolences book at www.yourvoicemarkham.ca.
