Markham Community Makers
KEVA returns to the main galleries!
Makers are the new generation of do-it-yourself culture. Our grandparents and parents worked with manual tools to complete home repairs, paint, fashion clothing, cook, preserve, and garden and we continue in this tradition.
Maker Culture, a term first used almost 20 years ago, recognizes the interdisciplinary nature of the creative process. Makers typically support open source design, critical thinking, problem solving, and collaboration.
Earlier generations of Makers relied on reference books, manuals and magazines (such as Popular Mechanics) and perhaps their neighbours for knowledge, skills and inspiration. The newest generations integrate creative skills with technology in new and multidisciplinary ways. They also work with global networks to research, find inspiration, and join supportive communities.
Meet some of Markham’s Makers, of both the digital and analog realms. Then test your own design skills and engineering talents as you fashion structures using KEVA blocks.
Daniel Chung
Daniel Chung’s passion for 3D modelling is inspired by childhood enjoyment of SimCity, Minecraft, and LEGO. By reproducing iconic buildings and settings from those worlds, they honed their modelling skills to bring virtual worlds to life.
Their work now incorporates the evolution of their hometown, Markham, with scale reproductions of historically significant and recognizably “Markham” buildings.
Through voxels, CAD and modelling software, and FDM printing, they have fictional and real worlds at their fingertips. With digital technology, Daniel can indulge their passion for history, modernity, and fantasy through a unique art form.

We have allied with Unionville High School on several collaborations, giving students the opportunity to explore and interpret our medium and integrate it into their arts practice.
KEVA
Keva is a simple building system that uses one brick to inspire the creative spirit in people of all ages and abilities.
Precision milling of the hardwood bricks ensures they can be used for precise construction.
Join the other makers in this space and become part of our local community. Try one of our building challenges or create something new and unique with these bricks.
