Ontario Land Tribunals (OLT)
The OLT is previously known as the Local Planning Appeals Tribunal or the Ontario Municipal Board, collectively referred to as “the Tribunal.”
- When can you file an appeal to the Tribunal?

Zoning By-law Amendment
90 days from deeming the application complete
Any person or body who has made an oral submission at the Public Meeting or a written submission to the City with respect to the application
Draft Plan of Subdivision
90 days from deeming the application complete
Any person or body who has made a written submission to the City with respect to the application
Site Plan Control
30 days from deeming the application complete
Land Owner - Submitting an Appeal
When filing an appeal to the Tribunal, please note that there will be a charge of $400.00 (made payable to the Minister of Finance).
During this emergency period, as the Markham Civic Centre remains closed to the public. If your appeal is to a Committee Adjustment application, please contact Committee of Adjustment staff (coa@markham.ca) prior to submitting the appeal.
All appeals can be submitted at the dropbox located outside the Thornhill Entrance at 101 Town Centre Boulevard.
For Committee of Adjustment Applications
An additional administration fee of $263.50 plus HST (a separate cheque made payable to the City of Markham) will be required. Appeals are to be submitted to the Secretary-Treasurer of the Committee of Adjustment, Development Services.
For PLAN and SPC Applications
Appeals go to the City’s Clerks Department.
- What happens after an appeal has been filed?
The City provides all relevant documentation to the OLT, which are then forwarded to the Tribunal. The Tribunal administers the process. For additional information, please visit the OLT website.
