Appliances & Metal Items
The City of Markham provides monthly curbside pick up of broken appliances (fees apply) and large metal items. See below how to book your appointment. No charge for metal items.
Appliances in Good Condition
Items in good working condition should be donated to a local charity or second-hand store, such as Salvation Army Thrift Store, Value Village or Markham Restore (Habitat for Humanity).
Always call ahead to confirm if your item is acceptable or arrange for a free home pick-up.
- Broken Appliances
If you have a broken appliance, we can collect it for recycling once a month. You will need to make an appointment. Some of the appliances that we collect include:
- Refrigerators
- Stoves
- Washers
- Dryers
- Dishwashers
- Water heaters
- Water softeners
Please call 905.477.5530 to book and pay for a collection appointment. It costs $18.00 for each appliance (effective January 1, 2024).
All registered items must be set out at your curb by 7 AM on your appointment day. You can also put them out after 7 PM the night before.
For safety reasons, please remove all fridge and freezer doors from your appliance before placing it at the curb.
Refund Policy: For a refund, cancel your appointment by 12 PM the Friday before your Monday appointment.
- Metal Items
Large metal items are collected for recycling once a month. You will need to make an appointment and register each item. Smaller metal items can be dropped off at any Markham Recycling Depot.
Some items include:
- Bicycles
- BBQs (propane tanks removed)
- Lawn mowers (fuel removed)
- Metal bed frames (dismantled and bundled)
- Microwaves
