Keeping Markham Beautiful
Clean public spaces, sidewalks and streets keep Markham beautiful. It's everyone's responsibility to make sure our public spaces stay this way! Here at the City of Markham, we are doing our part by ensuring that there are litter receptacles placedin all public spaces.
Do your part – put your waste in the right place!
Street and Park Containers
There are hundreds of public space recycling containers in Markham. These bins are designed to increase recycling and reduce street litter. You can find them at transit stops and on many street corners.
Community Mailbox Recycling Program
Most Markham residents have their mail delivered to a Canada Post community mailbox. To reduce the litter that is created by unwanted paper materials, the City has placed over 2,500 large blue boxes beside Canada Post community mailboxes across Markham.
Just like your house, community mailbox recyclables are collected once a week on the same day as blue box collection.
Community mailboxes belong to and are maintained by Canada Post. Canada Post is also responsible for clearing the snow around the mailboxes and making them accessible.
If your community mailbox recycling bin needs to be emptied or replaced, please contact customerservice@markham.ca.
Dog Poop Belongs in the Green Bin — Not at the Park!
Do your part to protect our environment. To prevent dog poop from decomposing and getting into our local streams and rivers, always bring it home and put it in the green bin!
Did you know?
- You can use any plastic bag to scoop your poop (like grocery bags or bread bags — they're the perfect shape for your hand). Bags do not have to be compostable.
- To help reduce the amount of pet waste ending up in the landfill, the City has installed green bins in all dogs' off-leash areas. Find an Off-Leash Dog Park near you.
