Cardio, Mind & Body, Strength Training and Total Body Workout Classes
Active fitness members have free access to all drop-in and full session of group fitness classes. Become a Return to Fit member for your all-access pass to Markham Fitness.
Non-members can register for the full session of a group fitness class. These classes are offered at Angus Glen, Armadale, Crosby & Milliken Mills Community Centres.
Group Fitness Class Reminders:
- Bring your own mat to class.
- Indoor shoes are required to participate.
- Arrive on time for class. Spots cannot be guaranteed for late arrivals.
- Scented products can make people feel sick. Please use unscented hygiene and cosmetic products while in the fitness centre or studio. Thank you for your cooperation.

Drop-In Fitness Classes (Fitness members Only):
Online and in-person registration for drop-in fitness classes opens 21 hours before the class start time. If you registered online and are unable to attend, please withdraw yourself your registration to make the space available for another member.
These classes are held at the Aaniin, Centennial, Cornell, and Thornhill Fitness Centres.
Full-Session Fitness Classes:
Fall registration opens August 14. Online registration closes after the first class. To register after the first class, please email groupfitness@markham.ca.

- Class Descriptions
Cardio Classes
Keep your heart rate up and energy high in these classes designed to improve your cardiovascular fitness.
Cardio Dance: Dance and work out at the same time. From disco to the '60s to salsa to today's top hits, burn those calories while learning new and funky dance moves in this high-energy class.
Nia: A dynamic low impact cardiovascular program containing dance and martial arts. Class uses music to create inspiring imagery for the mind through movement integration. This holistic fitness program creates a new sense of well-being for all ages and fitness levels.
Zumba®: Mixing low-intensity and high-intensity moves for an interval-style, calorie-burning dance fitness party. Once the Latin and World rhythms take over, you'll see why Zumba® Fitness classes are often called exercise in disguise.
Strength Training ClassesTone and build muscle in classes designed to help you achieve strength goals.
Muscle Conditioning: This class offers a safe and effective strength workout (no cardio) to build bone mass, increase muscle strength and improve muscle tone. This format is suited to all fitness levels.
Pilates I: Offers a functional approach to strength and flexibility training with exercises created to strengthen abdominal and back muscles while developing pelvic stability and abdominal control. Pilates increases flexibility and strength, improves posture and coordination, and harmonizes mind and body.
Mind & Body Classes
Relax, meditate, stretch or sweat in through our variety of classes to increase your mind body connection.
Yoga – Gentle: This class guides participants through gentle yoga poses. Yoga philosophy and breath and body awareness are emphasized. Lying, sitting, and standing poses are included. Participants should be aware that poses are gentle but can be challenging. Please bring your own yoga mat to class.
Yoga: A non-competitive approach to physical fitness utilizing strength, balance, flexibility, and stamina. Proper body alignment, breathing and relaxation techniques are taught throughout the program. Please bring your own yoga mat to class.
Yoga - Power: An athletic high energy yoga. Participants will work up a sweat while grooving through this class, building strength and endurance while stretching to create space in the body. Please bring your own yoga mat to class.
Yoga - Yin: A slower paced 75 minute practice. Poses are held for a longer period of time typically 3-5 minutes to to target the connective tissues rather than focusing on the larger muscles. Uses mind body focus and promotes blood circulation.
Total Body Workout Classes
Join a low or high intensity class and work all your muscle groups so you feel great from head to toe.
Barre: Class uses a combination of postures inspired by Pilates and Yoga. Designed to improve strength, flexibility and balance. Class may incorporate light handheld weights and bands. Typically sock foot or bare feet worn in class however active shoes are welcome.
Core Strength & Stretch: Balance your way to a stronger, more toned physique. Target your essential core muscles to improve posture, alleviate back pain, improve your overall muscle strength and be less prone to injury and falls.
Low Impact: This class includes a cardio segment followed by light to moderate conditioning exercises. A great class for someone looking for a low impact on the body. *You may go down to the mat during this class.
Body Weight Boot Camp - Designed to elevate your heart rate with cardio, core and strength drills. This high-intensity training will push your whole body. Minimal to no equipment required to participate.
- Missed Classes and Refund Policy
There are no make up classes, credits, transfers or refunds if you miss a class. If a class is cancelled a class credit will be placed onto your registration account.

Can I access fitness classes if my membership is on hold?
No. To get access to all fitness classes, you will need to reactivate your fitness membership.
Can I convert my fitness class registration into a Return to Fit membership?
Yes. To get access to all fitness classes and become a fitness member, contact groupfitness@markham.ca.
