City of Markham Invites Young Women and Non-Binary Youth to Register for Camp Molly
MARKHAM, ON – April 4, 2025 – For the first time ever, the City of Markham is honoured to be chosen as a host city for Camp Molly, a transformative 4-day camp dedicated to inspiring young female and non-binary youth aged 15 to 18 by showcasing firefighting as a viable and rewarding career. The camp will take place from July 10 to July 13, 2025, and the deadline for registration is May 10, 2025.
Camp Molly offers a unique opportunity for participants to engage in comprehensive training in fire suppression, auto extrication, firefighter survival, and more. This empowering program aims to challenge and change the way attendees see themselves, fostering confidence and leadership skills. Honouring Molly Williams, North America’s first known female and first known black firefighter, the program was launched in 2019 and has expanded across Canada.
"Camp Molly lets young people know that gender is not a barrier to a career in the fire service and empowers them to see their potential and capabilities,” said Mayor Frank Scarpitti. “We are proud to host this camp in Markham and look forward to seeing the positive impact it will have on our community."
“Hosting Camp Molly reaffirms Markham Fire and Emergency Services’ commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion,” said Fire Chief Chris Nearing. “Having a diverse team of first responders allows us to serve our community in a thoughtful and inclusive manner.”
Participants will have the chance to learn about various branches of the fire service, including fire prevention, fire investigations, public education, and medical response. The camp concludes with a ceremonial graduation, celebrating the achievements and growth of each camper.
Registration is now open, and interested applicants are encouraged to visit Camp Molly's website for more information and to complete the registration process. Don't miss this opportunity to be part of an empowering and life-changing experience!
