MARKHAM, ON - January 19, 2018 - Today we joined General Motors Canada as they officially opened the Canadian Technical Centre (CTC) in Markham, GM’s largest automotive and mobility software hub in Canada.
“The official opening of GM’s new Canadian Technical Centre in Markham reinforces the City's position as Canada’s High-Tech Capital,” says Mayor Frank Scarpitti. “By hiring some of the best and brightest entrepreneurs, researchers, game changers and thought leaders, GM is leading the way in next generation auto innovation. I look forward to seeing how Markham will help influence the cars of the future.”
We are proud GM chose Markham to be the leading community for their focus in developing next-generation active safety, in-car infotainment systems, and software and controls related to self-driving vehicles. GM’s vision to create a world with “Zero crashes. Zero emissions. Zero congestion,” is in-line with the Greenprint - Markham’s Community Sustainability Plan.
“GM is thrilled to be in Markham. We selected Markham as a base for these automotive engineering and innovation jobs because Ontario’s ‘Innovation Corridor’ is a talent-rich, pro-innovation incubator with an ecosystem of partners focused on transformational research and development.” –Steve Carlisle, President and Managing Director, General Motors of Canada.
Part of what attracted GM Canada to Markham, is the City’s highly-skilled, highly- educated and diverse workforce, along with a flourishing innovation ecosystem. GM Canada’s CTC Markham campus will employ 700 people.
“One of the best things about working for GM Canada is anytime you’re interested in exploring something new, you have the support of your managers and your peers” says Markham resident, Ryla Mutiger, Quality Engineer at GM Canada. “They’re always excited to build you up and help you realize your dreams.”
“The brilliant minds that we have attracted to our city continue to make our community a thriving place,” says Mayor Frank Scarpitti. “Collectively, they are changing the car and in doing so, are changing our world to make it safer and more sustainable while improving the quality of life.”
