Forbes names City of Markham amongst Canada’s Best Employers 2024

MARKHAM, ON – January 23, 2024 – For the fourth consecutive year, the City of Markham has been recognized as one of Canada’s Best Employers 2024. Announced earlier today, the City of Markham is ranked the top city in Ontario and in the top 10 for Government Services.

“It is an honour to be recognized, for the fourth consecutive year, as one of Canada’s Best Employers,” said Markham Mayor Frank Scarpitti. “At the City of Markham, we work extremely hard to ensure a welcoming, diverse and inclusive environment that creates a positive culture for success. My sincerest thanks to CAO Andy Taylor and our Senior Management team for their inspired leadership as well as our many staff who continually display innovation and dedication every day.”

The City of Markham was once again named one of Canada’s Best Employers for 2024 by Forbes and Statista Inc., the world-leading statistics portal and industry ranking provider, through an independent survey of more than 40,000 Canada-based employees working for companies employing at least 500 people in Canada. The evaluation was based on direct and indirect recommendations from employees that were asked to rate their willingness to recommend their own employers to friends and family. Employee evaluations also included other employers in their respective industries that stood out either positively or negatively.

“To be recognized for the fourth year in a row is a testament to our successful People Plan and to the passionate, hard work and dedication of our staff at the City of Markham,” said CAO Andy Taylor. “Markham is committed to its excellence journey and we are grateful and honoured to be continually ranked as one of the best workplaces in Canada.”

Markham’s strength as an employer continues to lie in its commitment to its comprehensive People Plan which supports the City’s strategic goal of delivering exceptional services by exceptional people and focuses on onboarding, providing continuous opportunities for development and learning, numerous wellness initiatives, open communications, and a commitment to diversity and inclusion – as outlined in the updated Diversity Action Plan, which was released in July 2022.
