Markham Adopts Budget 2024
2.99% tax rate increase confirmed
MARKHAM, ON – February 28, 2024 – The City of Markham has adopted A Strong Markham: Budget 2024, which was presented by Mayor Frank Scarpitti on January 29. The tax rate increase of 2.99% means less than $40 for the average Markham home.
The budget adoption follows input from staff, Council and the community. A Public Meeting was held on February 15, as part of the City’s ongoing commitment to budget transparency.
“We have created a strong and responsible budget, and we are proud of our fiscal management,” said Mayor Frank Scarpitti. “With a 2024 property tax rate increase of 2.99%, Budget 2024 keeps affordability in mind and introduces a new Seniors tax relief program. Markham continues to have the lowest average tax rate increase in the GTA over 19 consecutive years. With the support of Council, Markham leads the way in delivering excellent services and investing in new infrastructure, while maintaining our assets in a state of good repair. Together, we are always working for a stronger Markham.”
