Markham Jazzlicious WinterFest Unveils Details of 2024 Event
MARKHAM, ON – December 6, 2023 – Destination Markham today announces the return of the wildly popular Markham Jazzlicious WinterFest. The second annual series builds on the overwhelming success of the sold-out 2023 inaugural season which brought together food lovers and music enthusiasts for special evenings celebrating the culturally rich experiences that City of Markham has to offer. This year’s edition sees the series double in size with six events taking place from late January through March 2024 at culinary destinations across Markham.
“The inaugural Markham Jazzlicious WinterFest series last year brought visitors from across the GTA to Markham for these uniquely curated evenings,” says Markham’s Mayor, Frank Scarpitti. “A program that began as an initiative to support Markham’s culinary sector during the slower season, quickly became a much talked about cultural event. Residents and visitors to the city were able to fully experience the exceptional diversity of our culinary offerings alongside performances by some of the best jazz artists Canada has to offer.”
“We are very excited to be bringing back this highly anticipated musical and culinary experience,” says Destination Markham Executive Director, Eric Lariviere. “Eating out is one of the main ways we treat ourselves, but diners also want these social occasions to last longer and be about more than just the cuisine. The addition of an intimate performance by some of this country’s celebrated jazz artists paired with the culinary arts of Markham’s best Chefs is the perfect ingredient to create once-in-a-lifetime experiences for these consumers.”
The 2024 events feature two-time Juno award winning bebop and swing vocalist Caity Gyorgy Quartet performing at NextDoor Restaurant helmed by Executive Chef Clayton Khan (January 23 to 27). Motown, Jazz and R&B singer George St Kitts appears at Rouge River Brewing Company hosted by brew master Jordan Mills and featuring Ian Patterson of the acclaimed Patterson Pizza (February 6 to 10). Celebrated jazz vocalist Matt Dusk will premiere his “The Best Is Yet To Come: Dusk Sings Bennett" show at Essence of Unionville hosted by Jitin Gaba, Executive Chef at the Hilton Toronto/Markham Suites Conference Centre & Spa (February 20 to 24). Leading jazz vocalist Heather Bambrick returns this year performing at Ambiyan which serves up authentic Indian cuisine by the newly appointed Executive Chef Harmeet Singh (February 27 to March 2). Barbra Lica, jazz vocalist and songwriter performs at Laz Cuisine where guests will be treated to a spectacular meal prepared by Executive Chef and Owner Diakhia Lezama (March 5 to 9). Jazzlicious WinterFest closes with performances by Canadian jazz and boogie woogie pianist Michael Kaeshammer who joins Bill Jewer, Executive Chef of Draco at the Toronto Marriott Markham (March 20 to 22).
Whether you're a jazz aficionado or just looking to enjoy some great music, food, drinks, and good company, Markham Jazzlicious WinterFest is the perfect reason to venture north of Toronto’s downtown core and discover Markham’s booming culinary and music scene. A diverse city rich in cultural heritage, Markham is considered one of the fastest-growing cities in Ontario and has cemented itself as a leading culinary destination within the Greater Toronto Area that regularly plays host to national and international artists and performers.
Markham Jazzlicious WinterFest is produced by Destination Markham Corporation in collaboration with the Markham Jazz Festival and Cosmo Music, and in partnership with JAZZ.FM91 radio and Flato Markham Theatre.
