Markham Museum Hosts First Ever Lunar Nights: Year of the Dragon Festival
MARKHAM, ON – January 22, 2024 – In celebration of the Lunar New Year, the Markham Museum is proud to host the City of Markham’s first ever Lunar Nights: Year of the Dragon Festival from February 8 to 25. Hosted in collaboration with Ell’Events Inc., Lunar Nights: Year of the Dragon Festival will feature over 250 vibrant lanterns across 20 different scenes as well as three interactive exhibitions inside of the museum, including its latest exhibition, Standing in the Doorway: Lived Histories & Experiences of the Chinese Community.
“For the City of Markham, hosting inclusive events that engages our community has always been of upmost importance,” says Markham Mayor Frank Scarpitti. “With over 250 lanterns spread across Markham Museum’s 25-acres, a variety of indoor and outdoor activities, tasty food vendors, and the Museum’s interactive exhibits, there will be something for everyone to enjoy. We hope the community will come out to immerse themselves in this beautiful cultural experience meant to bring everyone together.”
Beyond the captivating outdoor walk-through lantern light show and three interactive exhibitions inside the Museum, Lunar Nights: Year of the Dragon Festival will offer a variety of fun activities for the entire family to enjoy, including a telescopic moon viewing, captivating dragon performances, an indoor arts and crafts program, indoor vendors showcasing unique wares, delicious Asian-themed food trucks and food tents, and much more! Weather permitting, the festivities will also extend to an outdoor ice skating rink (bring your own skates) and invigorating snowshoeing adventures.
Tickets for Lunar Nights: Year of the Dragon Festival are $24.99 for adults, $19.99 for children aged 2 to 12, and free for babies under 23 months old. Tickets can be pre-purchased online or purchased on-site upon arrival.
