Markham’s Canada Day celebrations return in-person at new location - Markham Centre!
MARKHAM, ON – June 22, 2022 – We’ve missed you Markham! The City is thrilled to announce the return of our in-person Canada Day celebrations on July 1, at a new location – Markham Centre!
The event will be headlined by multi-award winning artist, Virginia to Vegas. With over 352 million global streams and 4 platinum singles, such as, “We are Stars”, “Lights Out” and “Just Friends”, Virginia to Vegas will bring his renowned indie-pop choruses and electronic melodies to our Canada Day stage.
The day’s festivities begin at 3 PM on July 1 and will feature live entertainment right up until our signature fireworks display, capping off the evening at 10 PM.
“We’re going to celebrate together,” says Markham Mayor Frank Scarpitti. “This year marks our tenth anniversary as a City. It was on Canada Day, a decade ago that Markham was designated a City – another reason to celebrate. In addition to award-winning artist, Virginia to Vegas, we’re proud to have Canadian singer and songwriter, Rêve, grace our main stage with her hit song ‘Ctrl + Alt +Del,’ ‘Headphones,’ and more.”
This year’s event offers an amazing line up of fun for the whole family, from delicious food trucks to well-known musical entertainment and a dazzling display of fireworks – there will be something for everyone of all ages to enjoy.
The new location, located in the heart of Markham Centre (Birchmount Rd./Enterprise Blvd.), will have ample, free parking available and is easily accessible by transit.
"We have an amazing day planned for you," says Canada Day Co-Chair, Councillor Amanda Yeung Collucci. "You’ll love the food we have lined up, and activities in our Kids Zone including thrilling feats of magic, and of course, Canada Day wouldn’t be the same without our crowd favourite, Doo Doo the Clown.”
"We've missed you Markham!” says Canada Day Co-Chair, Councillor Khalid Usman. “We are excited to bring together a full spectrum of amazing talent. We’ll have a variety of musical genres, including indie, dance pop, and family-friendly favourites, as well as Indigenous performances. This is one live show you don’t want to miss!”
