METER REPLACEMENT & TESTING
Testing Your Water Meter
If you think there is a problem with your water meter, the City can test it. You can contact the City for a test but you will be charged if the test finds that your meter readings are accurate. If the test shows that the meter was not accurate, the City will repair or replace the water meter. In this case you will not be charged for testing and the City will adjust your bill. For more information on water billing, please visit our Rates and Billing page.
To have your water meter tested, please call Markham’s Contact Centre at 905.477.5530.
Water Meter Replacement
Water meters can stop working properly over time. The City has a water meter replacement program that will replace water meters in homes and buildings every 20 years or so. This ensures that the water meters work, and makes them more efficient.
An approved City Contractor will contact you by mail or telephone when it’s time for your water meter to be replaced. You’ll need to book an appointment so that the staff person can get to your water meter. It usually takes one hour to replace the meter. There is no charge for this service.
Commercial Water Meter Replacement
The City has a yearly water meeting testing program for Industrial, Commercial, and Institutional (ICI) properties. There is no charge for this service.
If your ICI meter needs testing, a City contractor will contact you by mail or phone. We will give you all the information you need about the testing. We can also answer any questions you have before we start the test.
